Tell me about Jim’s expertise?

Jim’s areas of expertise include:

  • Personal injury
  • Statutory insurance
  • Public liability
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Civil litigation
  • Torts
  • Alternative dispute resolution
  • Mediation

For the past 11 years, Jim worked exclusively in the area of personal injury law, particularly in statutory personal injury compensation.  A recent addition to Hede Byrne & Hall, Jim works exclusively in the Personal Injury Team, in matters relating to public liability, compulsory third party (CTP) claims, and personal injury compensation claims (in which he acts for the defendant insurer).

Prior to joining our firm, Jim gained extensive experience in the legal industry.  He has worked for big law firms, medium size firms as a partner, sole practitioner firms, and as a self-employed lawyer for a short period of time.

Which industries has Jim gained insights into?

During the past decade and more, Jim has represented clients from diverse industries spanning from food processing, aged care, transport, mining and related services, and casinos, to manufacturing.  He has gained significant insights into the red meat and white meat industries, as well as into the transport sector.  Acting in matters involving dust-borne diseases is an additional area in which Jim has gained experience.

The opportunity to gain insights into such diverse industries has been a part of his career he has thoroughly enjoyed.

What skills and attributes does Jim bring to the table?

Jim has experience as a dispute resolution practitioner, having obtained certification as a nationally accredited mediator. In addition to this, he previously obtained training to become a family dispute resolution practitioner.

He is adept at understanding the human element to legal issues, particularly when it comes to personal injury matters.  In his view, personal injury is an area of law which will require human input and the application of human judgement, now and well into the future.

Outside of the law

Jim likes to stay active by jogging, participating in fun-runs.  When his feet are not in joggers, he enjoys staying in to read a good book.  Occasionally even a book that is not good will do.
